Per The National Retail Federation's annual survey by Prosper Insights & Analytics, consumers may spend $12.2 billion on Halloween this year.
This year, the money spent on candy, costumes, and decorations is expected to beat the $9.1 billion spent during 2017's Halloween.
Only $8 billion was spent during the pandemic in 2020. Consumers expect to spend $108.24 per person this year compared to $100.45 in 2022.
8,084 consumers shared their Halloween plans and 68% plan to hand out candy, 53% decorate their homes and yards, and 50% dress up in costumes.
32% planned to throw or attend a Halloween party and 28% wanted to take their kids trick-or-treating.
Apart from the general inflation, sugar prices rose due to shortages caused by bad weather in India, China, and Thailand, increasing candy prices.
Costumes, the biggest revenue-generators are expected to bring in $4.1 billion, decorations may generate $3.9 billion, and candy $3.6 billion.
Some new costume additions this year will be characters from movies like Barbie, Netflix's Wednesday (Addams), and The Super Mario Bros. Movie.
