It is important to review your credit report at least once a year to look out for incorrect entries or unauthorized charges.
You can check your credit report with any of the three major credit bureaus: Equifax®, Experian®, and TransUnion®.
If there is incorrect information on your credit report, you should dispute that information quickly.
Go to any of the bureaus online and give a clear and concise explanation of why you think that information is incorrect.
In some cases, you may have documents supporting your dispute. Upload those in your dispute as well.
The bureau will communicate the same information to the company reporting that account and sort out the issue.
You can also contact the issuer or lender who is reporting the incorrect information on your credit report.
Explain the circumstances and get clarity on how and why that information was reported out by the company.
If the lender agrees to work with you and rectify the error, or make adjustments, they can update the info.
