Jeff Bezos started Amazon as an online bookstore at a time when online shopping was unheard of. It is now one of the most popular online shopping stores.
Amazon's shares and stock prices have grown exponentially since it began, especially in the last ten years, making Bezos the third richest man in the world.
Jeff Bezos is currently worth $155 billion, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index. His Amazon equity makes up the largest share of this.
Bloomberg reports suggest Bezos' net worth increased by $125.6 billion from $29.4 billion in ten years. This brings his hourly earnings to a staggering $1.43 million!
His venture capitalist firm, Bezos Expeditions, has also invested in many startups, and Bezos also personally invested $1 million in Google back in 1998.
In 2013, he purchased the legacy newspaper The Washington Post for $250 million, expanding its digital presence and greatly increasing readership.
Bezos is currently facing an antitrust trial after the Federal Trade Commission and 17 states sued Amazon on Sept. 26th for monopolizing the market.
One of the lawsuit's claims is that Amazon's fair pricing policies don't allow its sellers to sell their products for lower rates anywhere else.
