Austin has been the hub of driverless cars since the passing of Senate Bill 2205 in 2017, imposing very few regulations on the car's operations.
Currently, GM's Cruise, Alphabet Waymo, and Volkswagen are running operations here, with Cruise operating over 125 cars.
Over the past week, there have been multiple reports of self-driving cars causing traffic jams near the University of Texas, Austin campus.
Recently, a driverless Cruise vehicle narrowly missed hitting a car near Austin Community College.
These incidents caused resident Raina Hornaday to petition against the operation of the Cruise cars in Austin.
Some of the demands of the petition include restricting operations in residential areas at night and reviewing Cruise's operations in general.
After she gets 100 signatures, the petition will be sent to Representative Gina Hinojosa.
Cruise has asked people to report any such incidents by emailing them and including the date, time, and name of the vehicle in the incident.
