Dubbed "Pharmageddon" by the organizers some of the staff of Walgreens are planning a walkout Monday through Wednesday to protest working conditions.
Employees from Rite Aid and CVS will also be joining in the protest against unfavorable working conditions like low wages but high work expectations.
The nationwide planned walkout will highlight the unsafe working conditions that are putting both employees and patients at risk, say the organizers.
Former Walgreens employee and pharmacy labor advocate Shane Jerominski said the walkout could affect several store locations as they plan to hold rallies.
There are also plans to push for unionizing pharmacy staff not currently represented. However, nothing is decided yet.
These walkouts come only weeks after a few CVS stores in Kansas City and other Walgreens locations staged walkouts against harsh working conditions.
A reduced workforce means employees have to juggle multiple daily tasks, increasing the margins for errors and endangering patients' lives.
Apart from filing and verifying prescriptions, they also have to answer patient phone calls, administer vaccines every 15 minutes, and deal with customers.
