ModeratorIn cases where your name is on the deed but not on the mortgage, you have legal rights over the house but no obligation to pay off the loan. A deed is a physical document that proves ownership of the property. The person holding the mortgage may have added you to the deed of the house – most commonly because you’re their spouse or relative.
