    Costco® is super picky about what credit cards they accept. While most retailers accept the most popular credit card brands like Mastercard®, Visa®, Discover®, and American Express®, Costco only accepts one.

    If you’re shopping in person at a Costco, they only accept Visa cards. But, for a long time, American Express held that exclusive spot.

    That means if you have a MasterCard, Discover, or American Express card, you won’t be able to use those for in-store purchases. You must have a Visa card or cash.

    You may be wondering why they’re so picky about the card brand, well, like a lot of things it all boils down to money. This exclusive partnership with Visa for in-store purchases may help them save on the fees merchants pay to credit card companies. 

    For online shoppers, Costco.com broadens its acceptance a bit, allowing MasterCard and Discover cards in addition to Visa.
