On a scoring scale of 300-850, most credit scoring models consider a score above 660 as positive. Between 670=739 is a good score (in the FICO® model), 740-799 is a great score, and above 800 is excellent.
If you’re looking for the VantageScore ® scoring model, the scores are categorized as very poor, poor, fair, good, and excellent. The good score range falls between 661-780, and an excellent score is 781-850.
Note that what is considered a great credit score changes based on the scoring model the lenders may use. VantageScore’s “good score” includes what FICO considers an excellent score. At the same time, all credit bureaus also caution their consumers that while having a good score is always recommended as a general practice to be able to manage your finances well, there is no “magic number” that can assure you loans, low interest rates, or credit card approvals.
