When will the student loan forgiveness application be available?

The Supreme Court struck down President Joe Biden’s student forgiveness plan. It will no longer be enacted and the applications for the same have been suspended indefinitely. The Biden administration is working on an alternative plan to forgive federal student loans which is projected to take another year to materialize. 

In the meantime, you can find updates and information on loan forgiveness and repayment plans on the United States Department of Education’s website.

The student loan forgiveness applications officially launched on October 17, 2022, and were supposed to be open until December 31, 2023. Each federal loan borrower would have been eligible for forgiveness up to $20,000 depending on their income and loan types. The forgiveness did not apply to private student loans.
