Although you cannot check your credit score with your Social Security Number, your SSN is needed to open a credit account and keep your credit reports updated. You can get access to your free credit report once every 12 months if you call the Annual Credit Report at 1-877-322-8228. You will give them your address, the last four digits of your Social Security number, and birth date. Finally, you’ll choose which credit bureau you want your report from. It will arrive by mail within 2-3 weeks.

You can access your credit report from the major credit bureaus once a year for free, or more frequently for a fee. Sometimes you can also get your score for free on various credit monitoring websites.
